It seems you had a little success (or at least with experiencing things related to AP). One successfully goes OOB by allowing their physical body to fall asleep (while focusing on something to remain aware), then doing an exit technique (like rolling to one side). Also, affirmations can be beneficial because it increases the chances of one becoming aware (and so does keeping a dream journal) while dreaming/going OOB. For example, say before your OBE attempt (and/or throughout the day), "I intend to have a fully conscious out-of-body-experience".
