They (our pets) certainly are alive & well in spirit.
I lost my dog back in the spring. He's visited me three times since, once just to say hello & have a play, & twice he brought messages. Now that I think of it he also came to me shortly after he passed, just to jump on me & give my face a lick. Yuk!
I've also heard him playing in the living room late at night.
The sadness will fade away in time & you'll be left with the happy memories & maybe the occasional visit :)
