That writer is Philip St Romain, it might be possible to organise some skype or phone sessions with him if he is still working as a spiritual director, he sounds ideally suited to her specific issues, having experienced exactly the same thing himself, and understanding them from a Christian perspective.

It sounds like your mother desperately needs to talk to someone about what she's going through, maybe you could try and organise it for her if she's willing.
