I would start by learning the meanings of the stones you are attracted to and wan to work with. Get to know them and their personal meanings through meditation or just holding them, etc. I sense that knowing the stones you own and practice will get you where you want to be.
You could learn about divination through books and I believe the Foundation of Shamanic Studies offers a course in divination. I am sure there are other teachers out there, but I do not know of any.
