we're probably talking about different, though related things.
i imagine that the contrasts between happy and unhappy emotions may
still be as sharp (probably moreso in fact), but the experience of shifting
dramatically between "highs and lows" would lessen significantly when
it's learned how to choose which to pursue and which to avoid; rather than
to be reacting to circumstances and allow them to dictate the emotions.

it's my contention that emotions are not dependent on life's circumstances.
i see them as directional markers, pointing towards heaven or hell, allowing
the destination to be chosen by the traveler.
