Asking for proof of their existence exhibits doubt of their existence. Usually doesn't do the trick. So I can't really recommend that at all.
Remember that the ability to sense and hear them is something given to all at birth. We are taught here otherwise, which creates the doubt and lack of faith. How can they speak to you if you have those god given gifts shut down through non belief? This is when tarot, angel numbers and paying attention to synchronicity comes into play.
All I could really recommend for you specifically would be to keep a dream log. As a visit to your dreams is a lot easier and more well received than showing up in 3D. But then you could brush it off as manifested dreams and you would still be in the same boat.
Ask for their guidance and see what happens. Either way they will help. But you knowing they did is all dependent on you and your belief of them.

For multiple years i prayed to god and asked to prove that everything is real and one day as I was meditating i open my eyes and Jesus started talking to me. So asking for proof does work just takes time as it is not top priority
