You can also set boundries by speaking with them. If it is truly a harmless spirit that is trapped and just looking for anyone who will notice their existance you can acknowledge them but also let them know what things they can not do that are causing issue. Let them know you are willing to coexist in harmony with them if they will abide by x,y, and z (your rules). My vet did this with a spirit of an elderly man who would walk every night the hallway outside their bedroom waking them in the early morning hours. My vet told him in no uncertain terms that you are welcome to stay but you must stop the walking and foot stomping when we sleep or I will have to take measures to have you leave our home. Since then the walking has stopped completely but they do know he is still there because in other ways he has become helpful to their family. Just set boundries, it is your home and you have the choice to accept them or banish them. I have spirits here and I know they are good, no bad feelings or any issues. But I do hear their footsteps whenever we come home from work as though they are running to greet us and have been waiting for our return. I even captured an orb on a hunting cam I set up on the countertop immediately after hearing the footsteps.
