My own view is that's it's a little late. The only danger is that one crypto takes over popularity from another causing it to crash. Bitcoin isn't some local thing. It's now world wide with (probably) billions invested, or being used (billions at the current exchange rates with toilet-paper fiat.)
No one knows exactly who has the coins. As it's a worldwide currency it can be moved anywhere anonymously. Your holding is your private bank.
It hasn't exactly exploded in popularity but an increasing number of users are seeing its benefits. You control your coins, not the banks with their ponzi schemes.
