This is a response I made on another thread about how the person thought
they couldn't meditate. I think it might be as relevant here as it was there even more so perhaps.

After meditation this morning, I wrote this down.

Thinking is an involuntary response to life. Thinking is part of
A survival mechanism. Pure awareness or pure witnessing can
See thinking and can know thinking even unconscious thinking.
Pure awareness has control over thinking, thinking can obscure
Pure awareness but has no control over pure awareness. The survival
Mechanism can be tempered by pure awareness, in other words our
Thinking doesn’t have to lead to actions.

The concept of voluntary and involuntary is important to understand
Otherwise we end up trying to control or eliminate things that find
Their place if we can experience or appreciate pure awareness.
