It is energetically connected to the Anja chakra, yes. It excretes chemicals. Scientists have found that it has rods and cones on it, just like our two front eyes do, and is highly sensitive to light. However, there were ancients of various cultures that knew details about the pineal gland and its psychic and biological function. Look it up (because I know you will, anyhow!  You'll love what you read) on YouTube, Wikipedia, etc. Also DreamViews.com, which has an EXCELLENT forum with TONS of useful ideas and techniques given by experienced practitioners of lucid dreaming, AP and phasing. You can even create your own online dream journal there, if you wanted. A very nice site. There are discussions there on the pineal gland and third eye chakra as well, in relation to "altered states" of consciousness.
