If you happen to be talking about the ether in etheric plane/body etc...
It has been used to describe what scientists call the electromagnetic field.
It has also been used to describe what scientists and others call the 'chi' energy field, orgone, bioplasma.
On occasion it has also been used to describe what some call the aura, that which is photographed using kirlian photography.
