As I see it, the 8 glasses of water are a guideline to adhere to if you can. Foremost I would listen to what the body can handle. If you find it hard to drink this amount of water in winter then I wouldn't fret about it. You sound like you are aware of fluid intake anyway.

As a guide to dehydration, the darker the urine the more fluid you need. Also, if you pinch the skin on the back of your hand and it doesn't go back to shape quickly - this also indicates the need for more water.
