Some thoughts...
Interestingly, the zombie phenomenon is likely a mix-match of different diseases throughout history. Rabies in particular as it makes the host lose himself and the virus is spread by bites. A pandemic apocalypse is reminiscent of plague outbreaks. If people cannot be cured and are also a danger to others than euthanasia is ethical.
In the video game Elder Scrolls Online there's a people who's religious beliefs prevent them from killing zombies, as they could be the people's ancestors [and harming your ancestors is a no-no]. But they have a solution in that they created an organization who's sole purpose is to kill zombies in case of an outbreak, but those who are part of this organization are at the same time shunned by mainstream society and seen as a necessary evil. Bit like the executioner in a Medieval community.
