Apologies for posting twice, but it was easier this way.

I would say that all living entities are souls. It's not that God gives us a soul, we are already a soul - God gives us the body. It's our misidentification with ourselves as the body that is the cause of our current bondage in this material world.

I'm of the opinion that, as described by Krishna is Bhagavad-Gita, both ourselves (the infinitesimal souls) and Krishna/God (the Infinite soul) are eternal in nature and never created or destroyed.
