There could be 2 reasons for this.
1. There are times that there are those who are unaware that they have passed over, they still believe they are in the here and now.
2. Some return to watch their own funeral and want to be around those they have left behind
I have a friend who saw her mother at her own funeral, she was standing in the background just watching. Her mother looked a few years younger and so much healthier :)
