My two cents is that the Soul is consciousness, and personality is an extension of the Soul in form. The important thing is our point of identification. Do we identify with the Soul, in which case consciousness rests in itself. Or do we identify with personality, in which case consciousness identifies with something other than itself, and there is an apparent separation between Soul and consciousness.
