Some's will to go on is stronger than others. Perhaps you being there for him as his father, as well as ya know, the entire rest of the family being supportive and accepting too! but perhaps that family tie is a strong reason, maybe the only reason, that he had the will to go on when everything told him to die instead.

I think that is true, and I think it says something about the love your family shares. Beautiful.
