I am pretty sure that the timeline can be altered. It seems to be so.
There are no mistakes. If it was the master plan to go back and finish your mission after your death, then that might happen. It seems unlikely that would be the plan, because you might as well do it right the first time. It isn't inconsistent with the principals that I have come to understand, but it wouldn't be practical.
I think we are doing our mission, even if it seems boring and meaningless, it isn't.
