Prayer For Matt

An ocean bejeweled with moonlight
An embrace of warm and gentle waves of crystalline water
That carries little black dolphins, seashells with tiny pearls,
And precious agates the colour of sunlight

A redwood forest murmuring in the night
Tall, quiet trees surging forth from the damp earth
Home to glowworms softly glowing, shining ferns
And faeries that weave wispy veils of light high above

A desert tinted pink with sunset’s cascade of rosy light
An unfurling of ancient rock and sand glittering to the bronze horizon
Where bush rabbit eyes, wild bird wings, and the jade arms of cacti
Lift up to a sky of stars gleaming like gossamer wings

A hillside perfumed with sweet green grasses
A view soaring over trembling leaves of oak and noble fir
To reveal mountain crests to the east that gleam as mirrors of light from beyond
And sea mist from the west that floats a song over royal blue ranges

All of this I give to you, all that has become part of your soul’s heart
Earthly pleasures shared whilst you lived and loved as your human self
Every gentle thing that has brought a small smile to your countenance
Every happy sight that has healed a wound or calmed a fear

I send this to you now with the signature of my heart
With my embrace, sweet as an armful of English roses
With a twinkling cupid’s locket bright as the ocean
With song of angel’s harp and poems from long, long ago
