No you're not doing them any harm. Put them in a shady damp place. They will thank you for it. They even might like being placed under an upturned plant pot or something? Or at least in a leafy damp place on the earth. I have noticed snails will kind of allow their parts which come into contact with dryness, to dry up and stick to the surface....but when rain comes again they re-activate. But slugs will just wither, so move them, why not?
