I've literally gotten a steel nut off my work bench in the garage and a piece of string out of the junk drawer in the kitchen and made one that worked more reliably than the fancy crystal one from the local new age shop...
My best one is an old indian arrowhead I found out in the boonies while on a bow hunting trip....
