I too prefer rough stones generally, but I think it depends on the stone. I can think of several types of stones that really benefit from polishing, and with some, you can't get the maximum beauty without some kind of cut or polish. Some great examples are :

Fire Agate ( be very careful with this one, you can ruin it by taking too many layers off )
Labradorite
Tiger Eye
Malachite
Ocean Jasper

I still prefer to keep these as raw as possible however. Such as having a raw piece that is smoothed and polished to bring out luster, but not cut in any particular shape.

BTW I think it's a cool pyramid too. :)
