It could mean delusion or lack of full knowledge about a partner. There is strong sexual attraction perhaps but not true companionship and understanding. Things may not be as they seem. There may be unresolved conflict. The partner might be a narcissist and a charmer and unlikely to accept they are wrong. To persist in the relationship would then be self defeating. On the other hand it could be something as simple as confusion about what one wants and where one is headed in the relationship, while giving in to impulsive or addictive behaviour in the relationship, co-dependency.
