You don't have to worry about that. The only spirits who can communicate with a medium are ones that have crossed over. And let it me to put it to you this way. The spirits closes to your heart while you were alive tend to have dibs on connecting with you through a medium. At least that's been my experience.
On a side note:
You can connect with your loved ones just by thinking about them. You don't need a medium since we're all spirit, but a medium can make the experience feel more validating because they are expressing feelings that only you could account for.
