It's best to leave the exposed to daylight. I got most of my crystal on cupboards etc throughout my house. I do have a crystal/meditation room. Most of the crystals I don't work with right now, are there. Very nice energy and feel to the room.
My tumbles are in a wooden thingy with sections (no lid). Best is not to store them in plastic containers, as that can interfere with their energy. You could also get a glass display to put them in. That way they do get daylight, but won't get really dusty.
Don't worry so much about them not lasting or not keeping. They don't come with a sell-by date! And it's not like they're batteries that will die over time! They will outlast you, lol
