You don't have to meditate. Understand that there are many paths leading to enlightenment, and meditation isn't necessary to "experience it".
Maybe you get depressed because you wanted spiritual enlightenment?
Try to change the goal - for example - I want to be happy or... try something simpler - hand gestures (mudras). You can do them even while lying in bed. I especially like Hridaya mudra - it heals the heart.
