Angelgirl you may have more success asking in the main body of the angels/guides forum. My personal view is that guides are ever-present, and anything you do that helps you relax and focus will help you connect to them. Candles, meditation, music, a bath... At first it tends to feel faint and easily mistaken as imaginary. Just give it time and you'll get there.
