Totemism is a system of belief in which each human is thought to have a spiritual connection or a kinship with another physical being, such as an animal or plant, often called a "spirit-being" or "totem." The totem is thought to interact with an individual and to serve as a messenger for spirit.

In native American culture they see the universe as one complete circle, a circle in which nothing is separate but it is all just one.

Nowadays we call the totems, power animals. The eagle, hawk and the wolf are probably the best known of these power animals.

Once you begin to notice the animals in your life and believe that they do indeed carry messages from spirit it brings you into a whole other world of beauty and mystery.

It all comes from a time when people only took what they needed to survive and blessed and thanked the animals for providing food.
