It is said that in yoga, Shavasana is the most difficult posture to master, because it's the state we lay ourselves down to sleep/rest every night, but there's a difference between that and doing Shavasana.

In Shavasana, there is a tendency to think too much, abstract too much, worry too much or simply fall asleep, so to keep the mind free from thought without sleeping first before meditation happens is the challenge with this pose.

Shavasana is the perfect posture for progressive muscle relaxation leading into the state of Yoga Nidra, which is like a bliss-less turiya state in which stuff like astral traveling can occur.
