Friends come and go, and sometimes they come back around again, but you will always have yourself, and in finding out who you are and what you want and learning to love yourself (because that wasn't in the instruction manual we all got when we came here) you maybe can realize you were the friend you were always looking for :)
On another note, do you know about Meetup? When I was trying to find people that were interested in learning what I was learning about, I found them on meetup, which is neighbors finding neighbors sort of thing. I would caution to only go to groups that meet outside or in a public place to start, but I have met so many lovely people at some meetups and if you believe that people will treat you kindly, they will.
