I know it can be frustrating / confusing when it feels like one-way communication. I never used to believe in an afterlife.. until things started happening to me that I couldn't understand.. and now I am awed by what I see as the 'truth'. A psychic medium and a visit to a spiritualist church taught me a lot of stuff about the afterlife. I kinda went as a student and not for personal reasons, and it was quite enlightening
