Everyone is different when they cross over in my experience. I have noticed a lot of people are confused at first and some are at peace and happy. One of my friends, however, that had a rather tragic life and died of a drug overdose, came to me the first time so upset just hysterical. It was so sad. This was 10 years ago. Now every once in a while she will come around and she seems a lot better. I think maybe it just takes time like you said.
I also had a lady I was just having a regular conversation with in my dream and then she got super angry. She was talking about her fiancee being engaged to someone else and then she got so angry she tried to attack me. I think it didn't help that I was scared instead of trying to be comforting. Its really hard though when someone starts screaming at you.
