Copy-Pasting

Dear members,

After much discussion, the staff decided to add a new Copy-Paste rule to the FAQs, effective immediately.

Copy-Paste: One or two lines at most of relevant text of material from other sites or sources and a link to the relevant text for further reading is allowed on the condition that the author is credited and the source linked is not a commercial site (promoting or selling goods or services). Quotes of religious texts such as the Bible or Quran must also be no more than one or two lines. Posts that quote or copy-paste more than one or two short lines of text will be removed or edited. Repeatedly breaching this rule will lead to warnings and possible DA.

Previously, the rule as stated was a blanket ban on any copy-pasted material from other sites. However, considering how common it is for people to use quotes from other sources for discussion on the internet, the current rule will allow for that in most cases as long as it is a short quote of no more than one or two lines and the author or source is credited.

If staff feels for any reason that a quote may be considered copyright infringement, as it can be in some cases even if it is a short quote and the source is credited, we reserve our right to remove or edit the post.

This rule applies to any posts currently existing on the forums as well as any that will be posted in the future, and staff will be making an effort to enforce this more strictly and thoroughly.

If you have any questions, please private message them to a staff member.
