Blacking out

Wasn't sure what section to put this in and this is probably a very stupid question but if one blacks out,for example from drinking too much, what does that mean about consciousness? As in,how come when we die,we go to different dimensions and leave the body, but when we black out,we are just not there, anywhere, really but just unconscious? And,it's weird to be "unconscious" yet still standing and making conversation? Why does the experience of blacking out really happen and what does it mean,in relation to consciousness? I will say,I notice when blacking out(based on an experience I once had),we seem to retain some kind of sense of memory, and I believe what Jose Silva once said that we are never truly unconscious because even though we don't remember consciously,I feel like I had a weird sense of someone helping me and being concerned for me and protective of me without knowing exactly what the person did. However, maybe that is from another reason but I just could never shake that feeling after the incident. It was very odd. But,why do we black out,and what does that mean about consciousness? The concept of blacking out has always completely spooked me out. Can we black out at times even when our consciousness leaves our bodies, such as after death? I'm just very confused. I always believed in life after death but now I think about blacking out and it just confuses me. Where do we go when we black out?
