I tend to get too humorous with this. It's one of these unexplained forces that amplify attraction between two people. I've (wrongly) put it down to pheromones (because I've encountered this phenomenon in others only to learn that when pheromones really did count then the "chemistry" disappeared).
Anyway, people have come to call it chemistry rather than magnetism.

I'd say it was copper nitrate.
