Yes they could both be together when they pass out of body finally. Especially if they have close bonds with each other. They could stay near Earth if they wish, or could just follow a natural progression, and go to deeper levels. Some go on quite quickly, and others take their leave of Earth more gradually. It is a choice made by the Soul and what it needs and desires.
As for 'coming back to show anyone else'....that can also depend on deep heartfelt desire. If there are loved ones still living on Earth, then many who have passed will try to get through to them. Sometimes they are successful....and sometimes less successful, but they often try. More than many people realise. Then they will move naturally to the 'place' they attune to best in the next world.
