I have a couple of experiences with the fae.
I remember my first warning someone gave to me where they said that they are mischievous and to be careful with them, however, I used to have a companion who was a fairy dragon. She liked to heal nature and take away nightmares. If you really want to open yourself up to them, I suggest having a positive attitude and sit outside in a quiet area and let the magic happen. :)
