I have found that the fairies and all the elementals will communicate with you and be nice with you if you make a conscious effort to help heal the earth and be kind to the animals that the fae help to protect.
Fae actually cover a whole range of elemental types, but like other posters have said just talk to them and leave them little treats like organic fruit. They will appreciate the offer and you will begin to see them more often or find little treats from them like coins or they will help the plants in your garden to grow and flourish. :)
