Yes the story is more or less all over mainstream media. I heard it on the radio that day.

One possible non-UFO theory put forward is that it was a small meteorite. But if so, why would it fly alongside the aircraft for a short distance before veering off at estimated "mach 2"?
It seems like a genuine sighting of something unidentified. What it was...we will probably not find out for sure.
