Words can be tricky to describe things. I like the concept and explanation that ego is not something necessarily to be killed or feared. It does indeed undergo transformation, it does indeed - is possible - to come into service to Us - and not the other way round. It's also a useful tool, also the way we first start "practice".
Demonizing ego is not the point. Seeing is.
Seeing is with awareness - how? "Just so" "Just so"
But Just So is not always too easy, hence there is practice.
Through practice, I do believe there is transformation, unravelling, rebirth. Ego then is a possibility, but no longer a promise. It's like a new life offered to the meek, at least it's possible.
Last word on this for now: I do, unlike OP, believe it is possible to live in primary silence - many Holy Men and Women have done so before us and with us today, so it's possible to go much deeper than mere quiescence of the so-called ego, in my own opinion.
