Lucidity is not an on/off sensation. You are correct that there are many varying levels of lucidity.
Some lucid dreams i can be very aware that I am in a dream and my body is elsewhere asleep and i can move around and explore the dream with conscious intent. While there are others where I can acknowledge it is a dream, but still be caught up in the play of it all.
Last night I had the shortest moment of lucidity ever. Where I was in a foreign country (maybe Turkey), where I entered a guys house by mistake, he was ****ed off, so I tried to leave and could not find the way out, so I said to myself "well, I guess the best way out is to wake up", then i woke myself. The only moment of lucidity was when I said that, before it was just a regular dream.
