This reminds me of something I was told here a few years back.
I don't remember the exact question I asked, but it was something along the line of the origin of souls.
I was told a little bit of a story that, to this day, makes me sit back and just go ' wow '.
Now, the wording isn't exact, but you'll get the jist.
Once, a very long time ago, there was a being / entity. It was the only one around. One day, it began to wonder what it looked like. Then, suddenly, the one became two. Now the being / entity could both see itself from its own perspective as well as from outside of itself.
This got it even more curious, and the process was repeated. Wanting to experience more, the process continued and continued.
Though, I suppose, if you replace the 'being / entity' with 'consciousness' it would work just as well.
