I have only practiced white magic, for protection purposes, but I suppose sending back bad vibes to the sender is going into the grey magic area.
I have not had to protect someone who is not open to the powers that be.
But I would think when you are thinking/ protecting yourself also think of them and use an object of theirs while doing this
