From what I understand, grounding is essentially getting rid of excess energy that can otherwise cause agitation. It brings awareness of our physical body and its connection with Earth. Grounding has the effect of settling the mind and body and allowing the practitioner better focus and is considered by many to be a foundational spiritual activity. Grounding before doing any spellwork is crucial for removing unbalanced energies whilst simultaneously replenish natural energies from Earth. You don't want any unfavorable side effects or backlash when doing any spellwork. And allows you to focus more on your intention.
