It seems that if the planet gets too warm, and arctic ice melts, that will put so much fresh water into the north Atlantic, and will definitely have an effect on the Gulf Stream. Now the Gulf Stream is about the only thing that stops UK and a lot of western/northern Europe from having "Continental" winters akin to those on the same latitude in Canada and Siberia.
So....the warmer it gets, paradoxically may be the end of mild winters for the UK, northern France, Ireland etc in time. Or it may even happen suddenly....
