We had the second snowfall of the year this weekend, and everything is completely caked. This poem draws a little bit of inspiration from that.

lost within a torrent

i watch a single snowflake
in a stormy blizzard as
it captures my
attention, one of
many, still unique

i watch a symphony
of memories fleeting,
floating by, as if
a puzzle piece was
found within a tiny
dream of mine and i
remember

i watch and see
the snowflakes flutter by
as each of them is
lost within a torrent

to observe within the suffering
forgotten memories
a falling puzzle piece
within a torrent

and i remember
when we craft our
loving dreams together,
wrap them in our
sadness, then
forget

each of us becoming
lost within the torment

we build our worlds
as thin as fragile
paper houses, watch
the snowflakes as
they drift by, every
snowflake still unique

our paper houses yet
collapse beneath the frigid
memories and i
remember mine long
gone within the freezing
sadness, lost within
the torment
