I thought elementals roamed free in the 'elements' but you could draw them to you when you become obsessed with something. You know, like too much of something is bad? And then, if you obsess or worry over something then it would draw to you and they are negative and would seek to overwhelm you and trap you into the obsession so they could stay with you and feed off you, forever.
