I'm 80 and I'm the happiest person I know. I don't feel old but do of course notice certain things which affect me physically - but normal really - and I tend to have to be careful of things such as turning the water or cooker off. My main difficulty is understanding that I'm still alive and well. Most of my friends and relatives are vanishing. But being old is lovely. It's the best time of my life (for me personally).

There's a certain solidity about being old. There's not much that can happen in the world that I haven't seen before. When I see my grandchildren, happy and balanced lads and lasses who have this wonderful world in front of them my heart rejoices.

This universe is fantastic.

Life is really worthwhile.

But it has to be earned.
