I use two types:

In Ear for when I am on/in bed.
Over The Ear for when I'm in a chair.

Studio headphones will give you the most neutral reproduction but I don't think it's worth getting anything fancy or expensive as I've found this has no effect on the outcome.

I'm am also a music enthusiast so I totally understand your question. I'd advise you to be more concerned about sound isolation rather than frequencies. Many times at my development circle we listen to music from a mobile phone without any problems.
