The NHS and a doctors passionate view.

I was listening to the radio today; there was a discussion about the National Health Service in the United Kingdom and the struggles it faces through underfunding and being so overwhelmed with so many people visiting doctors and hospitals. It was interesting to listen to a recently retired doctor who shared his vast knowledge and genuine opinion about the NHS.

Cutting to the chase he passionately expressed ‘at least 50% of his patients who had come to his practice presented lifestyle related illnesses’ and goes on to say with frustration ‘the government are ignoring this, they need to see this, they need to deal with this big issue, address the lifestyle of people and families, to help improve standards of living, helping people out of poverty, cost of living to come down so people can afford to eat healthily and to address the increase in mental health, alcohol, drug and smoking addictions, people struggle to see a future to hope for, all contributing to their health deteriorating’ he said ’ Deal with issues like these and the NHS will be released from the pressures it is faced with’.

I thought it was interesting his thoughts and facts on this, the government complain yet their polices seem to be causing the problem.
